Thornton Engineering is seeking skilled and trade-qualified Welder Job in Australia to join its fabrication workshops located in Corio, Victoria. This role is ideal for experienced welders with strong capabilities in MIG welding and exposure to other welding processes such as TIG, Flux-core, and Stick welding. As part of a high-performing team of boilermakers and welders, you will contribute to the delivery of large-scale steel fabrication projects for Tier 1 clients across Australia. Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality welding using GMAW (MIG) processes
- Carry out welding using GTAW (TIG), Flux-core, and SMAW (Stick) where required
- Interpret welding procedure specifications (WPS) accurately
- Select appropriate consumables and welding variables
- Operate and maintain welding machines, hand tools, and power tools
- Use measuring equipment to ensure fabricated components meet specifications
- Work in accordance with quality standards and safety requirements
- Follow workshop supervisor instructions and production schedules
- Contribute to the fabrication of large-scale steel components
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Requirements
- Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Welder) or equivalent
- Adequate welding skills to successfully pass a welder qualification test
- Strong experience in GMAW (MIG) welding
- Ability to read and interpret welding procedure specifications (WPS)
- Experience operating fabrication equipment
- Current and valid driver’s licence
- Experience with TIG, Flux-core, or Stick welding is advantageous
- Experience with stainless steel is an advantage
- Forklift, Dogman (DG), or other high-risk work licences are highly regarded
